Whidbey Island Elopement Photography
No matter the wedding, I still get excited. Folks tell me all the time how hard weddings are and how they just couldn’t do what I do. Then I tell them I literally feed off of it, I love it so much. Every wedding is always unique, no two are the same and every time I walk away with beautiful images that I am so proud I took.
Living on Whidbey Island I get to photograph at so many cool locations. One of my favorite recent ones was at the wharf in Coupeville. I’ve visited this wharf many times but never had I shot a wedding or elopement. A couple booked me through an officiant I work with frequently but no one knew the wharf would be under construction the day of the ceremony. When everyone arrived dressed up to have a formal ceremony, the building was dressed in more white than the bride. This threw us all into a bit of panic as the only business was closing for the day and the only decent view was a rack of colorful kayaks and some yachts under construction. After being asked where I thought the best place to photograph would be the brides sister quickly nixed it. We all gathered at the edge of a dock on a super sunny, cold, windy, construction-ridden day and photographed this Navy couple against the blue sky and dilapidated yachts. Everyone was huddled together tightly and it was very hard to capture the couple without their guests. Afterwards, we stayed on the dock and took our formals. When everything was over, the coffee shop which had technically closed opened its doors to us so they could sign their license in warmth and not have it blow away.
When everything was said and done I asked to take photos of a few more groupings outside. Then I asked the bride and groom to do some fun stuff as we left the venue and walked the long walk off the wharf. First we had her stand on a ledge and have the groom pick her up and spin her. She was clearly nervous but he had her and the shot is so fun and romantic. Its got to be one of my all time favorites. My other favorite is one where shes walking ahead of me with her husband and she turns back to smile. I am forever thankful for a bride who is aware of me and thinks to smile for the camera.
